Key Takeaways
Workload is the breaking point. Many teachers aren’t leaving because of the students, but because the system leaves no time to rest or reflect.
Lifestyle matters as much as pay. Having evenings free and weekends off in Dubai gives teachers a better quality of life, even if the work is still demanding.
Structure can support wellbeing. Scheduled non-teaching hours during the school day allow teachers to plan properly and go home without guilt.
Leadership defines culture. Schools with strong, fair leadership retain teachers; those with poor management lose them fast.
Pay is only part of the problem. The issue isn’t just salary, but the mismatch between effort, stress, and reward in UK teaching.
Dubai schools work differently. Larger teams, clearer structures, and cultural expectations make the workload more manageable despite other challenges.
Teaching English abroad is demanding. Many students in the UAE are EAL learners, so progress takes time and patience.
AI could ease pressure. Teachers using AI tools for planning and marking free up time and reduce burnout.
Work-life balance attracts talent. The UAE’s emphasis on staff wellbeing contrasts sharply with the UK’s constant rush.
The profession needs reform. Without real change to workload, pay, and respect, the UK will continue to lose great teachers overseas.

Introduction
welcome back thank you good to be back here yeah how long you been back for this is my about week now six days Days yeah literally um it’s been it’s been different it’s been cold cold is it yeah I’m suffering man yeah I had a cold the first week I was sick at home weather’sdifferent here I missed the hot weather in Dubai yeah so for those that don’t know Juba has been teaching with usfor what 15 years I good 15 years been talking about moving out to Dubai foryears and finally made the leap last year yeah yeah um he’s been on a coupleother episodes you you on the the teachers episode with Katherine we did a episode on reading yeah yeah a coupleyears ago last year before last year last in fact it was this time last year same time last Easter wasn’t it allthree of us for real it’s always in Easter in it yeah and always yeah they’re changing Seasonsisn’t it yeah it’s kind of weird your body just goes what’shappening yeah so how how’s the move been um so the move it’s been it’s it’sbeen good it’s been good it’s been challenging um I first moved D on my own didn’t have anybody with me so that wasreally a big struggle cuz obviously you know me I’m a sociable guy I likepeople but so that was a bit of a challenge I was on my own but having settled there for about 3 months I hadpeople fly over and that’s been really good and since then it’s just been really good you know and Dubai is such acountry there’s so many things to do there’s so many places to go you don’t get tired of it so I’ve been there forwhat now since August so coming up to how many months have you been now eight or something eight or nine months andit’s still it’s still new to me it’s still fresh the the novelty hasn’t worn off um the weather’s just beautiful Icannot I cannot stress enough like I love the weather man this is this is Isee see outside these window it’s miserable so out there it’s been good I’m enjoying out there um the school hasbeen good the life out there is good the lifestyle you know you see on on social media it’s like a fantasy and it feelslike a fantasy while you’re there it literally does you wake up feel real it doesn’t feel real because and even whenyou’re driving love is not real to me it just seems like a you should see the rain out there fake butthe rain is definitely fake the rain is fake cloud seeding and stufffake you know you know what I mean Cloud seing yeah they do Cloud sheding don’t they so but the government makes it rainand then the country shuts down that they’re not prepared for the rain that they yeah apparently is quite a spectacle when they is a defin spectacle like you can see all the planes like gather I haven’t se I haven’t seen the planes I’ve just seen the the hail stones and the wind and the the floods shocking and they get they get stoned they any cars that are not parked on the ground they get that proper battered upit’s really bad it gets really bad wouldn’t like that I wouldn’t like thatno I got underground parking I don’t think I’d noticed I be like little it my car has been improved it’s a new car out speaking of cars yeah you how are you finding thecuz you obviously got a car there yeah and how are you finding driving on the other side um I’ve got a Dodge Charger must be just got to put it out there you know v86 beautiful car lovely engine the roar but driving out you miss your Civic I do not miss my Civic done with those days but the driving out there there’s somany lanes is is hard driving on the left isn’t necessarily the challenge it’s all the different lanes and peopleout there don’t drive safe they don’t they just speed all the time so for example even when I’m doing speed limitsthere be cars behind me flashing me out the way that they want to go that’s the same here though but at least they keepa safe distance they got one one car two car if leave a gap some will squeeze in and especially during traffic like thelanes get crazy everyone going in and out so you could have a clear Lane and you’re trying to indicate in by the timeyou’ve started moving there’s about three other cars coming to the same Lane and obviously you’re driving on the left but all the exits are on the right soyou’re on the far left lane then you got cut across seven eight Lanes to come off your exit which that’s not how it worksthat is how it works that’s literally how it works the number of times by the time I move across Lane by Lane by Laneby the time I get to the exit I missed I’m like ah I’ve I’ve heard that like actually finding your way around is quite difficult in Dubai because if youget into the wrong lane or something like that you it takes a long time toyou miss one lane you’re you’re straight down for a long time man cuz it’s yeah it’s just like they sort of engineeredthe city to flow it just parallel all the way one one thing I do like though they don’t have a lot of roundabouts sowhat they do have is they have um they have little Loop systems so instead of going to a Rand bat and you goaround like spaghetti jump but that’s why it that’s why it takes longer though that’s it does but there’s not i’ bescared to do a roundabout with those that many lanes man that many Lan never really bothered me I’ve driven on the other side the other side is the problemit’s the number of lanes and these these they don’t drive safe they just don’t at least I’m even though I drive fast orwhatever I’m still conscious about the safety of other cars and my surround you say that I drive across America a on thesouth coast of America in massive massive like 4×4 yeah and um we drovepast somebody with both their feet out the window just sitting there like this where is this we we drove well we did aroad trip from Houston Texas to Miami so we drove along the South CoastAlabama Daytona New Orleans Jacksonville ended up in Miami for three nights wellalmost died in a Mustang did in Mustang are nice car know yeah nothey’re they’re lovely it was like this old old convertible must Mustang I think that my uncle was driving and he forsome reason decided I’m going to read the map and drive at the same time so he was like he had like in those days whenwe didn’t have Google Maps or whatever it was um he actually had a physicalmap he was spread across the whole car and he was just kind of holding it and he was like reading the map and thenthere was like a car up ahead and I thought we’ my dad and like my family were like I thought we saw the car likebecause the car was just kind of like going along the mer the free well no itjust I think they were like they they they’ stopped like or something there was something wrong with the car and myuncle didn’t see it and we were going at like 60 70 km an hour I don’t know likeit was quick and we like my dad was like look out like really calmly and then myuncle went oh and then he went like that like it lit literally like came so closecuz basically you’re dead like that I can imagine his dad’s really Cal just yeah look how you might crash and thenand then and then my my uncle was like like that and he managed to avoid it butit was really close I remember just being in the back seat just went no reactionH I’ve actually with my car you know J I’ve joined the Dodge Club sothis of course you have I’ve seen the video of all it looked like um you knowthat’s there like scene out of um Tokyo Drift where they all drive around the mountain it looked like that that’s exactly what is all of the Dodge it’sall Dodges and um the there’s in the in the actual group there’s about 300 members but active members are like 780members realistically so what we do we just meet up once every couple of months we go for a drive we might have somebreakfast together and just socialize and I’ve only been to two drives which has been really good actually cuz they’re they’re really close knit cuzthey’ve obviously been in the club for years but just to see some of the cars there is amazing like I thought my carwas nice but then you see some of their Dodges and their charges and challenges and Brams they’re incredible incrediblecars and they sound just driving there and just seeing it it’s amazing man um and it’s good it’s a good networkingopportunity as well cuz they are nice people um we have breakfast and what they’re trying to do now is they’re trying to become a bit more organized sothey’re going to try to invite guest speak and kind of make it a bit more a bit more meaningful to people that gobut just a drive alone we we take a long drive in the morning up the mountain actually we done two mountains now umsee that you see the scen see and having all those cars in one Convoy it just feels good it’s good nice start a maClub [Music] should ma peoplecome I know it’s kind of a long story but what actually made you move out there in the first place so so many
Why did you move
things so many things um as you know I’ve been working here here for a long time I’ve been teaching for a long time as well how long than now teaching forabout 13 14 years and um I was doing well in my teaching career here um I was a part Vand everything but the problem is the workload um you don’t get a second to yourself I just I just think back now towhen I was here actually here I us to wake up at 7: go into work start the day stay in school I me kids finish at whathalf three stay in school till 600 half 6 get back home at 7:00 in the evening half 700 in the evening depending ontraffic eat a little something no time to spend time with the children no time to watch anything just eat somefood get back to the on the laptop plan for the next day go to sleep repeat just doing that on a cycle for the last 13years essentially and you know people say it gets easier the more you teachbut that’s I don’t know I don’t know if how true that is if you’re if you’re not going to be if you’re not stagnant ifyou’re always doing something more so I’ve always tried to elevate my career so I’ve never been teaching the same thing I I’m always teaching the samething but never at the same level that makes sense different year groups ordifferent but different responsibilities let’s say so never just being year for teacher for example and I’m year forTeacher year for Teacher year for be year for Teacher then subject lead then year lead then phase lead so there’salways been something elevating that um and even then the curriculum is always changing so even the plans that you’vegot from last year are always changing so you can’t just use those PL and change the dates a lot of people have this misconception that if you’ve beenteaching for years You’ have years of plan I’ve got years of planning you go through my from from my folders this planning going about 10 years andthey’re decent plans but actually the curriculum has changed so much none of those are relevant um to use now youknow so in that in that sense I had to do something cuz I was working six days a week essentially and making ends me Iwas just not enjoying the quality of life not enjoying the quality of life umso that’s one of the main reasons I left you by so do they not have the same sort of a system in place over
UK Vs. UEA: The Differences
it’s so different over there how it very different so um the the schools are bigger so in the the biggest school I’vehad here is a 44 M so there’s four teacher in the year group I’ve got 18 classes in year five I’m a year fiveteacher in my school there’s 18 classes there’s um nine boys classes cuz it’s anIslamic school in in in the UA there’s nine boys classes and about eight girls classes so there’s 18 teaches I plan onesubject every five or six weeks whereas in the UK I’m planning more subjects every week yeah so there’s a there’s awhole planning system where I don’t have to plan as much now my school day in in in Dubai starts at 7 um and it finishesat 4 and when I say finishes at 4 it literally means you tap out and you’re done I don’t bring anywhere home oranything during the school day I get two hours out of class every single day every day I’m out of class for two hourswell just just breaks or no as a as a so that will be Arabic and Islamic Studies obviously taught by the Arabic teachersso as a minimum it would be 2 hours a today then they’ve got PE I’m out for PE as well I’m out for art um so I couldhave more than that so some days I’m I’m literally out a lot so and I get to my own timetable as well so I’m I wasn’tvery smart this year but I could be a lot smarter next year where I can plan swimming P art and I have the whole morning off essentially or spread it outso I a day here a day here um but the planning is such a such a decreasedworkload um with 18 teachers planning it’s only my turn every five or sixweeks and I plan one subject um when I finish at 4 I go homeI mean it’s not I’m not going to paint an easy picture this it’s hard the school is hard the children are hard and and the difference being they’re all e espeakers cuz English is not the first language the first thing we was we was taught is that in this country they cometo school they go home they’re watching YouTube they’re watching TV it’s all in English over there they they come to school to learn English they go homethey’re watching everything in Arabic the YouTube’s in Arabic the Arabic so they’re all EO so their achievement isvery low so it’s hard work but when I finish at 4 I’m going home I’m going fora swim I’m going to the gym um we can go out we got the rest of the day I don’tplan I don’t pick up my laptop I don’t have this anxiety that I got to do this I got to do thatso do you think that’s the same in other professions out there cuz I mean with uswe finish like s and there’s rarely a time where we’re not thinking about yeahit’s I mean it’s kind of different because we’re running a business but even people that don’t I know people that come home from like working in the city and they’re still working in theevenings or thinking about work and dreaming about work and like is it do you think it’s the same for otherprofessions in Dubai or just teaching I think it I think it’s it’s probablysimilar because the people I’ve met everybody’s chilled cuz they’ve got their working hours and I think um thewellbeing of staff from across the across um companies and things they all theyall emphasize their well-being the work work balance and everybody I’ve met is pretty relaxed so when we’re going outin the evenings or when we’re going when I meet people in the pool or wherever it is they’re not stressing about what’s happening tomorrow and we do we do ofcourse ask each other what do you do for a living what do you do we we make that kind of acquaintance but no one is noone is that kind of under that kind of pressure I remember having nightmares about work when sats are coming now yeahsix those are bad times traumatizing times you know but I don’t have that anymore Idon’t have that um and the people I’ve met there they don’t have that either everybody’s just happy because when their work is finished it’s finished andwhat they we call these them pinch pinching points in the year where it can be a bit stressful so you have that weekwhere you’ve got inspection you’ve got that visitors coming so that can be quite stressful that week but you putthe hours in you put the effort in what’s there what’s there like off like equivalent off equ is khda okay andthey’re in for a whole week okay actually in for a whole week and it’s actually we just and they have it everyyear we actually just had one before the holidays which we grateful cuz we’re now relaxed we don’t have to worry aboutthat but they they give you they tell you on a Wednesday that they’re coming and you got from Wednesday to Friday toprepare um and they in for the whole week and they they come in and and go as they please um there’s no there’s nothey they are the authority over everything the teacher the head teacher now can tell them anything they expect things the certain way um they expectfolders in every classroom they expect to see personalized planning of course a lot like off butthey’ve just got so much more autonomy to do what they want is is it a bit like is it a private is a private body or isit part of the sort of State it’s part of the state it’s part of the state it would be and one of the great the grading system you can’t you can’t sowe’re a good school we can’t drop any more than one we can’t go up any more than one every year so we can’t go fromgood to requires Improvement for example yeah it doesn’t yeah that doesn’t even make sense like yeah so you can’t justdrop in all those levels you can only go down one you can go up one we haven’tmoved but it’s intense the whole week is intense they’re just everywhere there’s so many of them as well then they andthey they’re from all over the they’re from different places as well so they are part of the state but they bring inpeople from the UK there’s offer inspectors there there’s head teachers there and there’s Specialists English specialist math specialistscn specialist and they just wander around come and go as they please it was crazy yeah it’s not it’s not the one dayI prefer the one day offstage you know and you’re you’re told you kind of you kind of know they’re going to come in for mats you’re like all right but withthem they just do whatever they want it was it was intense are there any likewacky stories from your teaching time wacky there’s a lot ofstories like the best one or two um so my my children are extremelyprivileged they’re very very well off um W his to I don’t know man I don’t know how much I cansay you can use code names I I tell you one of my boys yeah he’s such a such agorgeous cute boy right he says to me he’s buying a car I’m okay what caragain he’s telling me he’s buying this por and I’m thinking so you’re buying a remote control car you’re buying a tour car goes no I’m buying a real car rightI go what do you mean you’re buying a real car you can’t drive why would you buy a real car and he goes to me he’s going to Germany to buy a car that helikes for his drive to drive him around in and I thought good for you myfriend good for you they they um they have this tendency you know Oreo biscuits I don’t know why the kids lovethis they buy milk in a bottle they crush the Oreo biscuits like a milkshakelike a milkshake then they bring it to class and they get upset when they say put that away but I’m drinkingMister put the bottle away break is over and you made a mess this or everywhereum and where they’re so used to nannies they don’t have you know in know in in here they clean their tables they atleast care about their personal hygiene they’re not accustomed to taking care of themselves I have a children sit therethere’s a pencil right there and they’re just sitting there why are you not working for so Ino pencil Mister there’s a pencil right there like pick it up I’ve I’ve gone tothe point where I would give it to them but I’ve said actually no it’s right there pick it up start yourwork I find that I find that kids actually get worse at that here over as they get older as they get older no it’slike like when like when you take key stage one or something like that they’re eager aren they they they’re like I’mgoing to pick this up I’m going to put this away I’m like pack away and they put everything away nicely stuff likethat take some ages but they still do it and then like as I get older it just becomes like a nightmare it’s like theydon’t care it’s actually insane the number of times he says just start your work please just start just start Idon’t know what to do so it’s like Independence a problem there inde is a big problem I’ve seenI’ve seen right nannies they’ve be in the canteen after school we don’t get parents don’t pick up their kids theyget nannies or drivers I’ve seen kids eating their crisp packet and as they’re finishing the crisp The Nanny will havethe chocolate open rotate the crisp so doing a swap then it’s likeWow Let’s just my God yeah i’ pay for someone not to do thatyeah it’s the same it’s the same like in my family um in in Malaysia cuz a lot ofthe time Malaysian Chinese yeah so they hire nannies in from like places likeThailand and other things um so the kids often have a stronger relationship withthe nanny than they do with see I’ve been I’ve been debating this with myself recently um the culture of nanes I I’mnot against Nan necessarily but the the dependence they have on nannies is too much I feel like um I’ve I’ve gotchildren and I would want a nanny to be there for the to help me to help me butis about helping out and not replacing me as a parent cuz a lot of these children the nannies are their parentsyeah no it gets yeah it’s very very close cuz they spend like like eighthours n hours like I’ve seen I’ve heard stories about children in FS Foundationstage they see their parent they see the nanny they run past the parent toso I don’t know if I don’t know how comfortable that is with me you know for for my kid to be doing that you come tothe parents yeah so have you you found it easier to spend time with your yourchildren I spent so much time with my children CH you know um I go home like literally I’m not even tired I’m noteven tired like here you’re tired you’re mentally exhausted but when I’m there I’m not even tired I’ve got the energy and the motivation to spend time withhim to take him out and I want and the weather’s so lovely you can’t not you can’t not go you know you cannot takehim out he’s in the same he’s in the same school same school as but the school is so big he’s in the we got twobuildings so he’s across the road but same same school so what year are you doing I’m doing year five he’s in yearfour so next year next year he’ll be in year five he must be killing it in English he must be like he he killing hemust be what are they doing he is killing in English by strugling with the Arabic thoughoh so one one lesson is excelling but other one I mean he’s done well he’s done well forthe for the few months he’s been there but it was tough for him to go from he’s got Arabic obviously it’s say how’s themove yeah for him like you know I made a mistake as cuz when he first came I think he came just before Christmas umand I didn’t really enroll him into the school um and I thought he’s on a holiday let him have a holiday and he had a few months at home just chillingdoing nothing so in the new year when he started school it was a big shock to his system and when he went to Arabic classlike who he doesn’t understand any but is he doing all right now you know like they can pick up more more manablebrain what’s the word uh what’s it called the plasticity of the brainthere’s a word for that is the word isable plasticity no there’s like a specific word anyway I forgot what it isyeah they can pick up more yeah with languages we just report he’s picking it up he’s picking up he’s doing well yeahso have you managed to I’ve learned a few phrases few phrases um I’m kidingthere he’ll teach you I do want to find actually want to find a class because I don’t want to beyeah nonp it’s quite a difficult um language for Europeans to pick up topick up is it’s like a lot of people think I think it’s of all the it’s oneand it’s kind of one of the harder dialects as well isn’t it like the the accents yeah is hard because there’slike loads of different Arabic spoken in different ways across the world was itwhereas compared to like Turkish FY and stuff like that they’re easier to much much easier to learn than I do I want toI want to go to a proper class I want to pick up the language and CU I’ve been there for a while now I want to know abit more a few phrases not enough no few like specific phrases few specificphrases it’s quite a good language to learn as well CU it’s spoken in so many places so yeah so so so it’s quitewidely spoken and even in places where they’ve got another language so Iran forinstance is like Persian yeah and fary and that kind of thing they they alsotend to speak Arabic really to so that could be good on my CV yeah no noprobably would depends whether you want to come out of teaching like do you wantto sort of stay with the teaching or um I’m not I’m not sure if I want to stay with the teaching I’m I’m enjoying itthere I will do it for a while out there but I want to I want to invest in duai I want to make more I want to I want moreI don’t know there’s more opportunities there cuz it’s still a new country still developing there’s so much that hasn’t been done there yeah I want to dosomething out there more than teaching I mean that will always be the I will always continue teaching but somethingon the side Dodge Char running the club twoteachers I’ve actually considered doing a rental company for teachers CU When I first moved there I obviously wrenched acar and not just me we had about 93 new staff members and amongst amongst thefriends I made be all looking for cheap rentals so if I was a guy with cheap rentals with 93 teachers every yearwhat’s the cheapest thing you can run there nent sunny nent sunny oh God themost boring yeah we I did that for about a week I think and I couldn’t deal and you know it drivve so slow you’re justre and you get bullied they bully you so much in that car cuz they just flash you out the way no matter which lane you’rein even in the slow lane still just get off the road off the roadessentially but um yeah there’s there’s a market there but there’s so many there’s so many rental companies outthere already anyways to be fair you just have to find the right one was there anything that like amazed you about so obviously there’s a lotof um there’s a lot of impressive buildings yeah right there’s a lot ofimpressive things in duby was there anything that like blew your socksoff just the buildings you know just the just the skyline when you’re driving every time I’m driving itdoesn’t get old um I’m not saying I want to be right at the center but just seeing that Skyline all of the towersand building it’s am it is amazing that and I’ve been to a few spots where you can see a proper view and it looks goodthe buildings are the buildings are incredible you know I look at these buildings here they’re so dull they sogray there isn’t single building camouflage thisy camouflage yeah there’s not single building in Dubai that hasn’tgot lights or lasers or something happening you know everywhere you go everywhere you go to eat you sit downyou can see the buildings and they always have a light show or a laser show or some sort of show that’s been actually the laser shows have beenbrilliant every I’ve going to e they’ve got a light show and every I’ve going to e there’s there’s something to watch andthere that it’s like a cross between say like Canary WF but like bigger and thenVegas yeah yeah imagine WF but Vegas yeah like cuz like it’s got the art ofand the lights of Vegas and then it’s got the desert and the heat yeah and desert’s beautiful though like sometimesyou been out into the desert I’ve been out in there once um it is nice man it is nice and died could find an oasisdoes does the Heat hit you like when so you opened the like when I was in in I was in Death Valley once and soundsexciting oh it’s like the hottest place on Earth really I think so yeah um apartfrom like a volcano puff puff the L Cent In but but when you like open open thecar door I never really understood that I that metaphor of like the heat hitting you and it does it just like cuz we werein the air conditioned car you open it and it just backlike it’s a lot more dense it def it definitely hits you um it would be humidwould it it’s just you know I remember being there when I first got there in August and I have got this balcony Iremember guy stepping out there from the air condition flat and you just swe straight away it doesn’t wave yeah likejust and you know what I was amazed cuz I’m not a I’m not a person that sweats alot but just just a second into in that heat it’s that wow it does it yeah hitsyou hits you hard man I I I don’t think I could do with it but then but then alot of it say like most places air conditioned that’s like one of the I mean if it weren’t then this is this isthis is the flip side of it right everything’s so air conditioned right so when you’re in the summer you go outwith shorts and t-shirt you’re like yeah it’s so hot oh when you step inside when you get to a place you’re like cold manyeah no it’s pretty and then you step outside again you just whoa you get back inside that of cold man I think he guysac across the lock they did this thing where they were like actually having really cold airon is a sign of luxuryreally so like like as in shops will turn down like they they’ll turn thetemperature right down so when people enter it’s like they feel like comfortable no it is though you needcomfortable though it’s too cold when you come out of that heat when you’re in that heat though that you know I realizthat McDonald’s once just stand in there cuz it was so outside just to catch a break just to catch a break man so theAC is essential so of people that you know and
Crisis: Why Are Teachers Leaving the UK?
our people that have Tau here with us yeah you’re not the first one to move over to unfort or even just to leaveteaching in general what’s going on with that why what what’s thereason just the stuff you spoke about earlier it’s got to come down to workload you know it’s just if you wantto be a good teacher you have to put in the hours and there’s not enough hours in the day there their schools areworking that they they keep talking about work life balance but they don’t provide the opportunities to give youthat PPA is cut down you know expectations have gone up every year umand like in Du buai they give you that time to do it so when I’m working and I finish at for it’s because I get twohours a day out of class and additionally I get other time as well so I could do my planning if I’m doing planI could do my printing now I get my resources printed a weeks in advancehere it’s a daily mission it’s a daily nightmare every day and it doesn’t help that that the teachers we don’t get paidfor working those hours you know the the money is not the worst but the money doesn’t it’s not enough for the hoursthat teachers are putting in I don’t think I think there needs to be more of an incentive to teach here if you’regoing to do the effort there need to be more of an incentive it’s not there’s not enough incentive to put in the Y and keep working and keep grinding so couldyou do that anywhere else would it be that you know of cuz everyone like let’sjust go let’s just go through like yeah the list of people that at least we’ve known you can tell us if there’s morethat you know from your schools and stuff um with iy I iy was the first oneto to go so she was teaching the year US10 though she she actually left for a year didn’t she she was supposed to go for a year to do to explore it shedoesn’t come back no it’s been 10 years but yeah well we we opened openhere well almost 10 years ago in September it’ll be 10 years wow this place 10years this place wow so so she she went Sharon SharonGareth is still teaching I think yeah but he’s yeah I think i’ haven’t spoken to him for a long time but um we can’twe can’t who else is there there’s you now there’s Chanel chel there’s Carolineshe stopped teaching Caroline we carried eight that’s sixuh who else I don’t know who else moved to the there’s certainly a lot of people who like think about stopping teachinglike they’re always thinking about then you get Catherine who’s like gone the other way or or they’vethey’ve like cut down to becoming something else likesomething educational but not Rel that’s still thing when you’re a teacher you don’t have the that’s your skill isn’tit teaching is your skill it’s your qualification what do you do if you want to leave teaching what is your those are things leadership isn’t it becauseyou’ve got to control you’re still in school you’re still in education this this podcast y this well no I I thinkit’s quite an adaptable because you can learn other skills that secondary skillsthat support it but then the ability to communicate and explain things and Leadthere’s definitely transferable skills there are there are yeah it’s all about that like transferable transer and also you youfollow regulations you and that kind of thing presumably you got a clean cleancriminal record you know there’s there’s sort of I think it I think a lot of peoplewould be happy to take on a someone who was a teacher into into other the rolesso yeah fair but I do I do think there’s not enough incentives of so how how youhow would you um how would you fix the UK more moneypay the teachers more money no it’s about it’s about um giving more timetime over money to be fair the time to do things properly the time to get your work done during work hour there’s noreason why any should be coming at 7 leaving at 600 and going home to do workso what if you had someone that helped you this is it this is it ta ta’s no you know um having we used to have a in myold school we used to have two classes about three teachers which took the took a weight off a lot of took a lot ofstress off because that teacher can do the planning do the resources and it’s really helpful because that not onlyhelping the children but helping the teacher as well you know because that takes a lot of stress off finding waysfinding ways to give the teacher more time during school hours to do what needs to be done as opposed to outsideof school hours because there’s this expectation they just do at home you could you could just also AI can helpbecause like for instance if you if you get data on like a child’s test orsomething like that or whatever you can just get it to you can feed it into something that can analyze those resultsand then turn our report think they give you a stepbystep breakdown of what to do next as well you know exactly I’veactually started using a for reading planning really good you Ty the text saygive me three retrieval questions for year four children boom done three inference questions you don’t even haveto think about these things yeah you got to check it you got to check it yeah but like looking at looking at text andtrying to find an influence question that the chat can answer struggle before I use it all the time I use it almostdaily yeah to come up with stuff see this we the teacher should be training using AI that should be a now that we’vegot it it should be in the talk straight away teacher should have training on this this is yeah this outut I knowCatherine does us it quite a lot she’s she’s quite a happy Teacher you know Iwonder she’s new cuz she’s new I wonder how many years she’s got in but she I think she’s more happy this year becauseshe’s they they’ve sort of she’s not as stressed cuz that was his first year butI think she had like a a higher workload than most people would in in her first year but then I don’t know they seemedthey got a new head in or something like that I think it’s all about leadership because the big thing that I’ve likewhen I was at primary school and stuff like that like it was not a good school and then leadership changed over timeand now it’s a good school so it so much of it boils downto it’s all about leadership you know I I would look at some schools um that have a high turnover and you knowthey’ve got poor leadership when they’ve got three or four in this country they got three or four V in the same school you don’t want to apply for that schoolat all why are they all leaving the good schools don’t lose teachers yeah the schools that have got good leadershipgood balances they don’t they don’t have vacancies you can’t you can’t get in I think that’s true with any company aswell it’s like for instance here I think we retain people yeah yeah you have gotgood Dubai so it’s different yeah you’ve been working here longerthan most people yeah most most of our I think most of our chers thoughhave been with us for quite a long quite a sizable man of signyeah I think we’ve got stuff in place to make them as comfortable as possible toto do the yeah what it is you make it easy for the don’t you they they don’t have to do toomuch they can teach is essentially they can come in and and you got the stuff there ready do you actually if you thensaid you have to do this and this in addition to to that yeah most classes they don’t have to plan yeah becausewe’ve got our own booklets and curriculum sorted M it’s just it’s the delivering of the classand them admin and registered and whatever else it’s easy it’s easy simple stuff yeah so that’s why they stay youknow can’t complain I’ve got good life in man I can do things here I could like you said
Fixing The UK Economy
before I spend time with my child um I’ve got so much time compared to what I used to have you don’t get that here thestress levels are too much and even if you got time you’re exhausted I’m so free out there I come home I go outevery day every day without fail weekends I’m doing something I’m always doing something yeah know and therealways something to do and I’m able to afford it financially that’s the thing the thing the thing that makes me thinkabout it the most is the whole tax situation as we’ve tax CLE we spokeabout this morning even it’s it’s amazing it’s just ridiculous how much gets taken yeah in this country youcannot you I’m working all these out here for somebody else for somebody else and I haven’t got the money to spend andI haven’t got the time to use that money yeah that’s that’s how I’m feeling at the moment the problem is I think it’snot tax in of itself it’s how poorly it’s spent so so for instance I’dbe happy if it was in other countries they have a similar tax burden but people actuallyare happy because because it’s well utilized and there’s sort of forwardplanning but the way things are at the moment it’s just like there’s noforethought of the future at all everything nothing’s done as aninvestment cuz if you going to think of government as just like essentially a business that can’t go busted very easyum you can just keep taking tax keep taking tax legal Mafia but but but they need tobe investing properly and sustainably into into things um for the future but theway this been the money politics works is all very short term I’ve seen I’ve seen uh articles about them spendinglike 2 million to do a mini roundabout it’s like give me in it give me 100 I’lldo it in like an hour but it just doesn’t I don’t know how accurate thatstuff is but it’s just yeah well a lot of it’s like for instance when we sold off Council housesright like initially it might seem like a good idea because you get all that money in but then you’re selling Stateassets and you think about it’s not that we’re not paying for councel we but theywe’re paying sort of private businesses and landlords to now support thatCouncil house yeah but who who is buying them who’s buying them who’s buying thems Chinese yeah that’s true but not I could be buying them soon give me a place but not not so muchwith Council housing with that just general property though yeah but that’s that’s the thing that’s who’s buying upthe state sells off these State assets which are assets but then they see themthey don’t really perceive it as an asset properly I don’t know they don’t really understand business and yetthey’re running the most important business look at the cost of living as well you know just just being here for aweek I spent more money this week on nothing than I have what I like in Dubaijust just walking into Tesco come back broke me yeah just come back broke likewhat did I buy Snickers bar walk away so I don’t know what they’re doing they need to they need to find a way to makeit to make it be to live here know to to be fair to in in Dubai yeah they’ve gota very unique situation so so in because of the sort of oil revenues and thatkind of thing like they they do have they have their capacity to do that yes but then still we we haven’t got a you’dthink like we would have built up like a sovereign well fund and things like that like thing things to actually supportthe infrastructure and the and invest but but they we we just have go to other places and other people mhm it goes towell it goes to the people at the very top it goes to the rich yeah um UL increase the Divide right and then alsothey don’t really do much to support sort of the local I’d say like local business really sers but then ifyou’ve got a mobile big business thenyou can you can avoid a lot more tax and you can avoid a lot more things so our system is very
Juber’s Future Plans
unfair so yeah you’ve been six what do we say eight months eight months whatyeah what what are you thinking I’m going to longterm long term I think I don’t know about indefinitely butdefinitely long term I’m going do a few more years out there um I don’t know if I want to do muchmore than teach in terms of my like leadership and things I quite enjoy the the comfort of just being yeah justbeing a teacher you know go go in out you know we had the KD inspection all leaders were so stressed staining late Iwas so relaxed not felt like that in years so it felt good so I may I may do some small progression but I don’t thinkI want to do major progressions and just keep enjoying my life but I do want to teach there for a few more yearsinvesting some business opportunities look around do you think about tuition out there I’ve I’ve thought abouttuition but here’s the thing you’re not allowed to as a teacher you’re not actually allowed to tutor which is funny you need to geta permit and the school has to give you permission to get the permit but theschools don’t want you to tutor so is it to do with what you might be teaching them or is it just to keep control of Ithink keep control of things um they don’t want their teachers to take their cuz the it’s a private school obviouslyoh okay and you don’t want to take their that be way yeah but but a lot of schools are like this so I was thinkingabout doing a red bit tuition you know in Dubai that was that would be so funnyDubai tuition in Imagine imagine if that repetion in Dubai in Dubai that becomesour third Center that was that was meant to be the third Center that was meant to be the third Center but brought intosome trouble out there but I’m still I still want to do a tuition because there is um opportunities for for a successfultuition business out there so I want to find a way either myself or through friends and contacts whatever to open upCenter we um we wait for that we’ll do well you can take one of the franchises from us yeah we’ll do a podcast out there yeahyou can f us all out I want this desk but um but I do want to invest insome sort of business definitely tuition is at the top of my list maybe some properties cuz they’re all building they’re all developing will you investin properties out there or here out there out there so I want to invest in properties that are not yet developed soof developing because they’re so cheap um just trying to make the right contacts at the moment just trying it’sall about where you buy yeah because because everybody’s trying to sell you they’re trying to sell you everything every every time you walk to a shoppingcenter they give you this leaf that leaf is a house here property here new ta and I’m thinking there’s so many there Iseem to find the right people to talk to and then find the right place to buy as well you know so those those are thingsI can’t imagine buying a buying a house from a [Laughter] leaflet they have a model right theyhave a model there they say look can’t they give you a leaf to buy this you have a plot here this this this money this money that money I’m it’s a lot ofinformation man yeah I don’t trust you I can’t trust you nothing nothing they do is on paper as well everything’s okayyou’ll be okay don’t worry it’s okay all good all good I want some written confirmations you needArabic I think ultimately cuz like don’t worry it’s good youcan’t it’s not good so I need I need to make some solid and this is part I’m part of the DodgeClub as well you know because they in from different so when I make some good friends that I can trust and rely on Ican start thinking about yeah add your decent information also like did you Iobviously like here financially it was more difficult because of the outgoes and that kind of thing did you is it outthere are you actually managing to build out there so build your savings and Ican’t I hav I haven’t built my savings yet cuz I’ve been spending a lot but I’ve got a lot but I’ve got a lot moreto which means that if I was CU like I said I’m still new there so it’s still verynovel to me so we’re still spending a bit more I’ve traveled a lot more as well this year compared to previouslybut there’s so much yeah I can save but you’re you’re sort of like not moving forward but you’re sort of staying whereyou are despite the spending yeah yeah so I’m not I’m not struggling either this is what I saying I’ve got money tospend and go out you I can go out every day and not worry about here budget this budget that plan a weekend here plan aweekend but I’m just spending carelessly at the moment you should always budget I should I need to I need to budget Imight just cheat to you after this get little plan together cuz I need to start saving now actually you’ve upgraded yourlifestyle but not allocated yes lifestyle inflation lifestyle inflation yeah I’m guilty that’s we’ll we’ll talkabout this off camera last time I just sort my life outyeah yeah well it’s good of you to come back into the thanks for having me Ilove you know all the kids are still asking after you yeah I’m I’m going to pop in I told come in Saturday yeah I’m going to come in thisSaturday I think they’ll be um I haven’t told them no don’t tell them no I’m not going to tell them should I bring themsomething sweets or something snacks you can do I might do bring them a Dodge Charger each give me oneto yeah no they they’ll be happy to see you there might be a couple of hours there for you potentially if you wantedto cuz you said you wanted to maybe just jump in just to yeah I jump in for a little bit I had I had the6 two threeno’s covering yet you can you can take them for English if you want go back to go backto the SATs paper yeah well we’ll speak to S when he comes in and we can maybegive you a little class on Saturday for all time sake that be fun yeah no but Iappreciate you taking time to come of course of course to see us again of course and good luck with everythingthank you I’m sure we’ll see you again on you definitely see me again you might see me redb tuition Dubai Dubai probablyneed to go out at some point guys come out yeah I said we was
